You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

The EU has become so absurd that it is now impossible to parody them.  Check this nonsense:

The European Commission has certainly “gone to work on an egg”. Its latest requirement is that farmers must stamp every egg they sell with their home address, the details of the hen which laid the egg, the method of production, the code for the producer-packer, and a sell-by date (News, Feb 7) (registration required).

One would think that the method of production would be obvious, but maybe they know something we don’t.

In A Rage

Words cannot describe the rage that consumed me when I read this:

Kenosha – A high school senior accused of dumping his newborn son in a portable toilet apologized for trying to kill the baby but said he threw the infant away because he didn’t want the child, a detective testified Wednesday.

Gabriel Estrada, 18, was bound over for trial following a preliminary hearing Wednesday. Charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, Estrada remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bail.

In a written statement he gave to Kenosha County Sheriff’s Detective Scott Stanek, Estrada said he thought the baby would be found in two or three days, and it would be dead by then.

The sheer callousness and stupidity of such an act boggles me.

I don’t have children of my own.  However, after holding my nieces when they were just a few hours old I came to understand why and how most parents will do anything to protect their children.  It seems impossible to me to hold a small infant and not be awed by the tremendous power we have to affect their lives and humbled by the responsibility that comes with it.  They’re older now, but I still shudder at the thought of anything happening to my nieces and I feel a tremendous responsibility to protect them in any way possible.

I have never been able to understand how people can intentionally hurt a child or how someone can be so disconnected from humanity as to dispose of one as if it were an inconvenient bit of refuse.  What’s more, it is such a stupid thing to do.  There are many ways that this could have been handled.  There are so many people out there that want children who would jump at the chance to adopt this child.  Even the (17-year old) mother wanted the child taken to a church.  And from what I’ve been told, Wisconsin has a drop-off law that would have allowed them to give the baby away with no questions asked.

No, I will not feel sorry for this piece of crap and whatever punishment he receives.  Whatever it is, it won’t be sufficient.

Quickies #6

I debated with myself on whether to post this, but there are some things that have been bugging me and I’ve got to get them off my chest.  What good is a blog if you can’t vent about what’s on your mind, no matter how sensitive?  So, here goes…

Guys, there are some bathroom habits we need to discuss so that we can all get along with a minimum amount of conflict and disruption (not to mention disgust):

  • Food has no place in the men’s room.  I recently saw a guy take an apple into a stall with him.  Ok, maybe I’m the one with the hangup, but it disgusted me to no end.
  • If you’re going to use a stall, close the door.  I hate walking in and finding someone else in there.
  • Lift the lid!  Unless you’re an olympic-class sharpshooter, you’d best put it up.  Some poor shmuck has to come in and clean up that mess.  Have mercy on them.
  • Wash you hands!  It helps prevent the spread of disease.  That, and I don’t really want to touch your wang germs on the door handle.  I don’t really want to get to know you that well, thanks.
  • Personal space!  Leave an empty stall if available, otherwise we’ll have to revoke your man card.

Ok.  I feel better now…

Brain Challenged…

“The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies.”—Sheryl Crow

I’m glad she didn’t say that in front of me.  My explosive laughter would have probably frightened the poor thing.  But then again, I’ve never expected her to be a deep thinker.  Nice tower, but no bell (if you know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more, say no more).

Of course, I agree in a way.  If all your enemies are dead, then you won’t have any more problems (except maybe finding a place to hide the bodies).

Hmmm…

Did Seinfeld see the future?

Or did he set the trend?

Perverts In Power

It appears that a local judge (Haltom City) has gotten himself in trouble for locking up women so that he could look at their breasts.  The local ABC affiliate, WFAA-TV, has been hammering at this story for quite some time.  Now they’ve finally uncovered some pretty damning statements in depositions that were filed in court recently.  Here’s an article from today’s Dallas Morning News with some of the details:

In the 10-page deposition filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth, Mr. Weaver told attorneys for the women that Judge Byno’s decisions to keep some women in jail were “based solely on the size of their breasts.” Mr. Weaver’s statement is part of the documents filed in the cases of the 12 women.

“Judge Byno was known to all the jail staff and to many of the police officers as being the worst offender when it came to making sexually degrading comments about female inmates and how they should be treated,” Mr. Weaver said.

According to the deposition, Judge Byno made comments such as, “Look at the … [breasts] on that one,” and “Let’s keep her in jail because I want to see those … [breasts] again tomorrow,” Mr. Weaver said.

He also said women who flirted with the judge during arraignments were sometimes released.

The jumpsuits that were given to female inmates required them to practically strip to use the restroom.  The judge (and some of the jailers) would watch them on the jail’s TV monitors.

This particular judge is also known for giving out maximum fines and harsh sentences for minor offenses (“Max Jack”).  It is thought that one of the reasons that the city was so resistant to pursuing the case was that he brought in a lot of revenue.

Take a look at the article and the picture of the judge.  Somehow I’m glad I’ve never had to face this kind of petty tyrant.  He doesn’t seem very judicial.

Horrible…

Hurst man gets 30 years for killing mom

01/08/2003

Associated Press

FORT WORTH—A Hurst man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for killing his mother—in a case investigators said involved cannibalism.

“Joey” Cala II pleaded guilty to murder on Monday.

Police found the bloody man and the body of 79-year-old Lydia Cala on Oct. 15, 2001.

Joey Cala had moved into her home in late 2000 after he was paroled for his third drunken driving conviction.

A coroner found that the elderly woman was beaten to death. Autopsy results also indicated that her body was mutilated. The murder indictment says the victim also was stabbed.

There are a few more details in this article.  It includes this tidbit:

Police found him covered in blood and apparently eating an organ.

If anyone deserves the death penalty, it’s this piece of excrement.  What kind of pathetic sick bastard would do something like this?

And people wonder about my misanthropic tendencies.

Close To Home

Whoa!  This came to a head in my old hometown:

Amtrak passengers subdue armed man near Big Sandy

By The Associated Press

BIG SANDY – Passengers aboard an Amtrak train apparently took matters into their own hands Sunday when a man wielding a plastic knife threatened to kill them while screaming profanities against America.

“It could have been a lot worse. The passengers did a fantastic job of restraining him,” said Big Sandy Police Chief Ronnie Norman.

According to arrest reports, passengers already had Gerardo Damien Bedia, 21, restrained in an upstairs compartment when Big Sandy Police Officer William Lakes arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m. Sunday.

It sounds like they called out the whole department for this one (no, I’m not being sarcastic or facetious).  For those that haven’t been to Big Sandy, it’s a very small town of about 1500 (the school was barely big enough to be 2A when I was there and there were only 30 people in my graduating class) .  Not much happens in Big Sandy, so I suppose this will give them something to talk about for quite a while.

Update: It might seem strange to some people that a plastic knife could be that dangerous.  Most people envision some kind of pathetic thing like you’d get at a picnic.  Actually, there are some pretty dangerous plastic knives available today.

Don’t Step In The Multiculturalism

Did you ever read something so idiotic that you wish you could unread it and get it out of your head to prevent contamination?  Well, this  is a prime candidate for a brain erase button:

My personal most mystifying moment of the year followed a speech to high school seniors in which I disagreed with students at Princeton who marched just after Sept. 11 demanding “mediation” with the Taliban. “Must the rape victim counsel with the rapist to better understand his reasons for his criminal assault?” I asked.

One girl replied, “Why yes, she should meet with her attacker, to understand his culture and the reasons for his acts.” Two other kids agreed with her.

Spoken like someone who’s never known someone who was raped.

If someone has declared that they will be satisfied with nothing less than the utter destruction of your culture, then there’s no point in wasting your breath talking.  The only understanding I want here is their understanding that attacking us is a loser’s game.

Oh, yeah, and if these idiots heard what I’d do with a rapist, they’d probably pass out (hint: it involves rope, bolt cutters, an A frame or a tree, and a dull, rusty knife).  More scream, less talk.

Animal Cruelty

I’m not an animal rights person and I despise PETA.  However I do think that animals, especially trusting ones like dogs, deserve compassion from us.  If an animal must be killed, then it must be done quickly and humanely.  Further, it must be done for a good reason.

That’s only a small part of why this makes me so mad that I could kill one of those soldiers.  I’d very much like to tie the bastard up like he did that dog and do the same thing to him.

Update (10:36 pm):  I’m still mad as hell about this and the more I think about it the madder I get.  Let’s just nuke the whole damn country.
