Ghost In The Machine
Whenever I do a Hotsync with my Tungsten T3, I wait for it to finish and then hit the power button to turn it off. Sometimes, though, it turns itself back on after a few seconds. Usually, turning it off again takes care of it, but there have been a few times where it’s waited a few seconds and turned itself back on again (sometimes it decides to be even more persistent and I have to repeat this cycle three or four times to get it to stay off).
I think my Palm is haunted.
There used to be some way on Palms that you could let it go into a standby mode, that looked like off, but the clock would keep running. It would wake up and buzz/flash when an appointment came up. Is it possible the thing is doing that, and you have either missed appointments it is trying to tell you about, or some strange setting in the HotSync set that looks like an appointment right away?
That’s an interesting possibility. My Palm is always set to monitor and give alarms for appointments. However, when it wakes up after I turn it off it just sits there on whatever screen it was last on (usually the Hotsync status screen). When it does an alarm it displays the calendar entry.
But given the weird behavior (my previous Palm never mysteriously turned itself on), anything is possible.
