New Music

I was given a gift card for Barnes & Noble at Christmas and I finally got around to going to the B&N in Grapevine this weekend.  I spent some time in their music section and came across a group called Robinella & the CC String Band.  They’re pretty hard to classify as they mix jazz, bluegrass, and country.

I ripped the CD to MP3 as soon as I got home and I’ve listened to it several times now.  I’m still enjoying it each time, which is a good sign.

Ever hear of Allison Brown?  She does what sounds like the same thing.  If your B&N has the computer search thing you can look her up and listen to samples.  She’s cool.

  2. I hadn’t heard of her before.  I listened to some of her samples online, though.  Her music reminds me a bit of Nickel Creek or Alison Kraus and Union Station.  From what I heard, though, she doesn’t do her own vocals (although I admit only listening to a limited sample).

Robinella is the vocalist for this group and her voice and style remind me a bit of Alison Kraus and Katherine Whalen (from Squirrel Nut Zippers).
